You may be one of the many people in America who are affected by sleep disorders ranging from snoring to sleep apnea (interruptions in breathing), to insomnia and narcolepsy (inability to stay awake). You should not be embarrassed by these conditions, but you should be concerned.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that only occurs when you are asleep. If while sleeping you stop breathing, then you likely have sleep apnea. This breath-holding usually lasts at least ten seconds in duration. It may occur without you even knowing about it. You may tend to feel tired, drowsy, or low on energy during the day. Other problems you may have are morning headaches, poor memory and concentration, irritability and loss of sex drive. Also, it is common for spouses to complain that you snore loudly. spouse may complain that you snore loudly. For some people, the snoring is so intense that it will actually cause them awaken during the night.
